Viola M. Shipley, 87, of Westminster, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Carroll Hospital Center.
Born on January 10, 1925 in Buckeystown, MD, she was the daughter of the late George Maynard and Ava Keyser Martz. She was the wife of the late Vernon U. Shipley, who predeceased her in 2002, after 56 years of marriage.
She was the owner and operator of the 141 West Beauty Shop, a licensed real estate agent, was on the Maryland State Liquor Control Board, and was very active with the Historical Society of Carroll County.
Surviving her are daughter Sharon S. Conover and her longtime companion Dennis Bowen, Sr. of Westminster; sisters Eleanor Wampler of Eldersburg and Ava Marie Peterson of Western Maryland; grandchildren Darin Cassell and Stephanie Eline of Littlestown, PA, and Nicholas Conover of Westminster; great grandchildren William Keller, Andrew Burick, Amber Cassell, Paige Cassell, and Genesis Conover; and great great grandchild Daniel Keller.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel. 412 Washington Rd., Westminster.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Wayne Gadow officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1850 York Rd., Suite D, Timonium, MD 21093.
