Obituary for Gloria "Loly" Britt

Gloria Ursula “Loly” Britt, 91, passed away on Monday, April 29th, 2019 at her home in Hanover, PA.
Born June 27, 1927 in Scranton, PA, she was the beloved daughter of the late Vincent and Grace Palumbo and sister of Sylvia Barron and the late Jean Hube.
Following relocation from PA to MD during WWII, as her father worked on the ship yards in Baltimore to aid in the war effort, Gloria graduated from Southern High School in Baltimore, MD, class of 1945, where she was proud to be editor of the school newspaper. She went on to work for the Baltimore Sun newspaper after high school, and later cherished her time working as a bridal consultant at a florist shop in Glen Burnie, MD for several years. Never wanting to “retire,” she completed her career working for her apartment’s rental office where she was adored by all.
Gloria loved to dance - especially the polka- and always loved a man in uniform. She was a genuine, caring person who was a dear friend to all. An active member of the Catholic Church, she volunteered a lot of her time with the community. A former grade school spelling bee champion, she was an avid reader who enjoyed mystery novels and crossword puzzles. Above all she adored her family (especially her son “Jimmy”) and enjoyed the precious time spent with them. She loved giving chocolates and gifts to her family, and always had a cold Coca-Cola to spare. Her grandchildren say that, “She was so sweet she’d give you a toothache.” She treasured being able to spend her last 15 years living in the loving company of her granddaughter, Nikki, and her family. In her words, she was “quite a doll”, and she loved all her “dollies” in her life- so many of them. Coming from a history of builders, military, and florists in her family, she built a lasting legacy of love, family, hard work, service, and an appreciation of beauty - reminding us all to put in an honest days work, while taking time to stop and smell the roses and give thanks.
Surviving her are beloved grandchildren and their spouses Jennifer Nicole and Neil Myers of Hanover, PA; Lieutenant Colonel (Promotable) James Ross and Coren Yastrzemsky of West Point, NY and cherished great-grandchildren Cole Myers, Abigayle Myers, Frankie Sue Yastrzemsky, and soon-to-be Jimmy Yastrzemsky (expected to make his arrival October 2019).
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Louis Britt (WWII veteran), and loving son and daughter-in-law James Vincent (Vietnam Era 82nd Airborne Paratrooper and builder/businessman) and Susan Yastrzemsky.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 11th, 2019 from 11:00 to 12:30, at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Rd., Westminster, with prayer services beginning at 12:00.
